The Authors

Jason Stroming | Articles | E-Mail
Jason is the creator and one of the main authors of The Occult Section. His interest in the paranormal began at an early age, when he would watch such shows as In Search Of… and read books like “The Encyclopedia of Monsters.” In May of 2006, he helped to create and co-found a paranormal investigations team that appeared on NBC News, The New York Times, The NY Daily News, TAPS Paramagazine, NY1 News, and various other local papers and radio shows. Jason has also appeared on several episodes of Dark Matters: Twisted But True on the Science Channel, as well as Love/Lust & The Paranormal on the Sundance Channel. In June of 2010 he founded The New York Paranormal Society, which in addition to ghost hunting, investigates claims of UFOs, Bigfoot, and other mysteries. He has dedicated most of his free time to researching and investigating all facets of the unexplained and paranormal, including cryptozoology, ufology and forteana in addition to the supernatural. A Brooklyn native, he is 42 years old, lives in Staten Island, NY, and has his BA in Psychology from the College of Staten Island, CUNY.

Jessi Riese is a very peculiar girl. (A Girl Anachronism if you will.) Originally from Central Florida, she now lives in Queens with all the ghosts in the graveyard. She is fascinated by history, local lore, urban legends, and has a very active case of taphophilia. When she’s not frolicking through cemeteries, reading, or watching X-Files, she co-leads a creative writers group in NYC called Inkins (www.inkins.com), she performs with an improv/comedy troupe called “Going Rogue”, and she is also a singer/songwriter. jannika coonsJannika Coons | Articles E-Mail
Pop culture enthusiast, amateur historian, and self-confessed geek, Jannika Coons spends most of her time just being Miley. Her contributions to The Occult Section mostly deal with the historical aspects and sociocultural constructs surrounding the paranormal. Jannika’s interest in the supernatural and haunt subculture began in early childhood, spending many late nights watching “scary,” b-level horror flicks with her siblings.

IRL, when she’s not writing, she dabbles in graphic design and marketing. Jannika is also one third of the creative talent behind Cullen the Kettle Black, a Twilight parody web comic. She loves b-movies, internet memes, and reading about serial killers and Roman history.
