Ghost Hunters Leaving the SyFy Channel

Well, this is a bit unexpected. Jason Hawes, the lovable lead investigator of those wacky ghost hunters of The Atlantic Paranormal Society, announced today that Season 11 will be the last season of Ghost Hunters on the SyFy Channel. While I’d like to believe that Jason and the crew are leaving SyFy in order to produce a more realistic and scientific offering for the viewing masses, I’m guessing this is all coming down to the almighty dollar. The show has been SyFy’s biggest (and perhaps only) success, so I can only imagine that SyFy would do everything in their power to keep the series on its airwaves. Unless Jason and company asked for something completely outrageous (and let’s be real, Jason is the only one calling the shots here, as Grant left years ago).

taps, ghost hunters, ghost hunters academy, syfi, scifiWith heavy heart we want to inform everyone that we are choosing at this time to end our relationship with SyFy channel.
Season 11 will be the last season we will do Ghost Hunters ‘With the Syfy Channel’.

We’ve been one of their top rated and top watched shows since TAPS and Pilgrim Films decided to join forces and create the show Ghost Hunters.

You all have been wonderful and your support has made the show Ghost Hunters such a huge success, As well as changing our lives in all incredible ways.

There are some huge things in the works with TAPS, Ghost Hunters, Pilgrim Films and so much more.

I wish I could share more with you now, But I can’t.
Hopefully real soon though!
I promise we will keep you all up to date with what is coming up in the near future.

Again, Thank you all for the love, respect and support.

It will be interesting to see where the series ends up. SyFy really was the best option for them. Even though channels like Discovery and the History Channel have lost a lot of credibility the last few years, I can’t see either of them really being too interested. Channels more suited to Ghost Hunters, like Destination America, would be a good fit with their already goofy paranormal programming (see Mountain Monsters and Ghost Brothers), but Destination America reaches far fewer subscribers than SyFy. Interesting times ahead…

    • Yes I know, but the parent companies usually keep subsidiary channels distinct. USA Network and SyFy are both owned by NBC Universal, as is Bravo, Oxygen and E!, but SyFy ended up with Ghost Hunters because that’s where it fit best in their network offerings. Discovery keeps the Discovery Channel for more mainstream shows like Deadliest Catch, while Destination America has Mountain Monsters, A Haunting, Ghost Brothers, etc.

  • as long as Ghost Hunters comes back I don’t care where they land. I’ll keep watching

    • I agree with Dena Brown’s comment, I don’t care where Ghost Hunters lands, as long as it’s on a station I’m already paying for, i.e. cable (TLC?…Long Island Medium is on TLC, or E! where the other medium Tyler is….Ghost Hunters would fit right in on either channel…), or Netflix, etc. because I don’t watch the SyFy channel otherwise. I only hope it won’t be on something like showtime or HBO because we can’t afford premium cable (student loans, layoff, rehire at 40% less pay, etc).

I love Ghost Hunters and was sad to see Grant leave, as well as Amy & Adam. I miss them very much. When I heard it was the last season, I thought it was ending entirely. I do hope we see the show start up soon elsewhere.

  • We have been HUGE fans of Ghost Hunters since 2004. Syfy must be totally nuts to let them leave. They are the only show we watch on that network. I just hope wherever they go that we’ll be able to get the station. TAPS FOREVER !!!

  • A haunting that premiered in 2005 moved to destination America shortly after DA premiered. Now a haunting is moving again to TLC Premiering there Oct 21. With this said Ghost Hunters could go to DA or TLC. Hopefully they will go to a channel I pay for. I get both TLC and DA. I Love Ghost Hunters. It is also possible minds could be changed and season 12 ends up on syfy to surprise of ghost hunters fans. As stated In article it will be interesting to see what happens.

  • I truly miss watching ghost hunters.i would love to watch them again. I feel they
