Lego’s New Haunted House Set

It’s Friday, so I’m doing another fun and lighthearted post. We’ve blogged here before about LEGO men, and now for all of the LEGO aficionados out there who also love the paranormal, there’s this new Haunted House playset.

lego haunted houseI can’t believe Lego has never released an official Haunted House set, but apparently this really is the first one. It’s launching in September as the pièce de résistance to the new Monster Fighters line, and it will be exclusive to Lego stores and the Lego online shop.

If you haven’t seen the new range, it basically pitches all of the classic movie monsters (vampires, werewolves, zombies, etc.) against a collection of Victorian-inspired steampunk heroes, led by Dr. Rodney Rathbone, in a quest to obtain the full set of “Moonstones” – which are required to take over the world. Here’s a nice little video to explain it all better.

The dilapidated, three-story Haunted House has over 2,000 pieces to build the gate, porch, fireplace, kitchen, office, attic, bedroom, potion room and music room, and will sell for $180/£150. Check out the builder video above to see the set’s designer enthusiastically explain all the great little features of the spooky home including:

  • 6 minifigures: Mr. and Mrs. Vampyre, zombie chef and butler, and two ghosts that glow-in-the-dark
  • A cool “crooked” design with boarded up windows and wonky shutters
  • A fireplace that swings open, with a ship in a bottle on the mantle
  • A kitchen with an old-style stove, jars and table
  • A hidden lever in the chimney which releases a secret staircase to the attic
  • A gramophone, records and newspaper Lego bricks
  • Stickers for wall hangings, spider webs and curtains

I love that these videos show how excited the designers get about their products. They are the ultimate big-kids-in-a-toy-store. What a great job to have!

The other sets in the range are available now from Amazon and the Lego online shop – my fave has to be the The Hot-Rod Hearse – I love this animated video of it being built! Find out more about the range on lego.com, including details on all the characters, videos of the sets and some fun games. There’s even an iOS game coming soon.

I’m not psychic, but I foresee myself buying this for my son Jake, who is a LEGO lover and fascinated by the paranormal (and the Titanic disaster, for some reason).
