Thoughts on Grant Wilson Leaving TAPS/”Ghost Hunters”

Grant Wilson leaving Ghost Hunters TAPSAs anyone who reads this blog probably knows, I’m not a fan of the SyFy Channel show Ghost Hunters. I haven’t watched the show for a few years now (with one exception, which I will soon explain), and most of my paranormally-involved friends and acquaintances no longer watch it either, for a myriad of reasons. But I actually tuned in last week, because they were advertising a development that would mean Ghost Hunters would “never be the same.” Basically, in what is perhaps one of the worst-kept secrets in television history, Grant Wilson, one of the founding members of TAPS, was leaving the show.

Now before I get into my criticisms and have to once again deal with a bunch of comments saying how I’m jealous and have sour grapes, I have to say that I, once upon a time, loved Ghost Hunters. It was great to see a show with actual paranormal investigators and not just local yahoos and self-proclaimed psychics running around making claims they could never verify. These were guys who were dedicated, spent lots of their own time and money investigating the paranormal, and used scientific methods. We were all happy for them, and they inspired many more people to get into this field. But things quickly began to change. Instead of being skeptical and trying to debunk things, now they were finding EVPs every week and claiming locations were haunted, something they’d never done before. The focus shifted from helping the average family with ghosts (anyone else remember “We’re here to help?”) to pompous claims of being the first and only team to ever investigate whatever famous haunted location of the week they were visiting (which was rarely the case). The show went from being something we all enjoyed and respected and turned into a ratings circus. Those of us who actually investigate the paranormal came to see what the show was now really about: ratings and money.

Again, before anyone has a chance to lob insults my way for being jealous or whatever, let me just say that no, I do not want a TV show. I’ve been on TV many times, from local news to the Discovery Channel, and I’ve turned down many, many other shows, some of them quite ludicrous in their premise. I’m not jealous of them at all, merely disappointed. And as many paranormal investigators will tell you, when TAPS rolls into town, they change things. They do things to make it harder on the rest of us to get into places. They’ve done this with two locations my group had investigated prior to TAPS ever being there, one of them being Snug Harbor, a recent episode that I watched (see, told you I’d get to it). And for those of you who think the show is entirely real, I have a script they left behind that I can show you. They didn’t investigate overnight, only filmed the investigative shots they needed and then bailed.

Anyhoo, now that the disclaimer is over, my thoughts on Grant leaving. To me, Grant always seemed the more upstanding of the two founders of TAPS. Jason Hawes has always seemed a bit pompous, and in more recent seasons just seems very put-upon to be doing the very easy thing he does and gets paid tons of money to do. His lack of care shows through in every episode. You can tell his passion is gone, and he’s just doing this for the money now. Grant, on the other hand, has always seemed more compassionate and invested in the work.

Grant is a controversial figure though, as it seems that whenever TAPS gets caught faking evidence, Grant is at the center of it. Lots of people I know blame Grant for this, and call him the worst of the bunch. I don’t quite see it that way. I wonder if he’s just not as into the money, the trickery, the ratings, and perhaps his heart just isn’t into hoaxing things? And maybe that is why he fails.

According to a recent Grant Wilson FAQ on the TAPS website (which now just leads to the same info on Jason Hawes’ website), Grant left to pursue his education. If so, good for him. I tend to believe that his heart just wasn’t in it anymore. Though this could simply be a huge ratings ploy. Tease that he’s leaving on the season finale, then sort of admit that he has a “few more investigations to do” (so he WILL be back next season), and maybe by the time that all happens, he’s miraculously changed his mind and stays with TAPS. Even the way they handled his exit was staged. He tells Jason to turn off his mic so he can tell him while they are investigating? Hogwash. Jason knew exactly what was going on. They tell Steve Gonsalves to gather the team for a private meeting, and then the cameras cut to the team sitting in a restaurant, obviously being filmed by multiple cameras. Yeah, very private. Then the waterworks when Grant announces his departure. Maybe tears of joy that they all might get more airtime now (and thus, more money)?

I wish Grant well. I really do. Like I said, he always seemed to be the most genuine of the bunch. But that being said, he could have left many years ago, when the credibility of the show was falling apart, and he didn’t. I’ve seen people on Facebook and other outlets thanking Grant profusely, and they are almost like memorials. He’s not dead, folks. And ghost hunting existed long before he was on TV. And mark my words, he will be back, at some point.

  • Jason, even though I am still addicted to the show, I agree with most of your post. For a long time I’ve been disappointed with where it has been going and how not real it is anymore. Addictions are hard to break though, and so I will continue to watch… probably until the show dies. I still firmly believe any of the other paranormal shows are far worse and more put on. I sometimes hate to admit it, but my being a fairly new paranormal investigator, a blogger, and a person obsessed with learning about the paranormal is due mostly to that show. Since then I’ve wised up and I research and read and know better than to trust everything I see on a paranormal reality show.

With that being said, I’ve often seen the sites online claiming they’ve caught TAPS faking evidence and such. Many of these sites don’t seem trustworthy and could have been faked themselves. And… just maybe my love for the show (even though it gets on my nerves) clouds my judgment. Can you recommend a trusted source to find information and evidence of them faking evidence?

  • Well said Jason… well said. I totally agree with everything you wrote. I couldn’t of explained it better myself. I use to be a fan of the show. I am one of the many that stopped watching it. I too had a great opportunity to investigate Snug Harbor and work with a bunch of awesome investigators who now I hope its safe to call them not only my colleagues but friends of mine.

After watching that episode I had hope they would do Snug Harbor justice because of their professionalism and experience. However, it was a train wreck. I can understand not wanting to be influenced by other teams relationships with Snug Harbor. But my jaw dropped when I saw Jason and Grant give credit to someone who has ZERO experience investigating the paranormal what so ever but not give any credit where credit was due to those who worked extremely hard at their relationships and evidence collected over the years prior to the TAPS episode. Even though I was only there one time, I had a great experience that was captured on video by a fellow investigator that was there. But it just doesn’t end there.

Another reason I stopped watching is when Jason made a remark regarding other teams that have investigated Bobby Mackey’s. He said something to the effect that one of the reasons TAPS was there was to get the facts right that other teams did not have. Again, a lot of teams have helped that location prior to TAPS being there. Personally I think it was a dig at not only those who were there before them but at Ghost Adventures. I took that personally. Maybe I shouldn’t, but I was offended. I can’t imagine how angry those remarks were to those who were targeted by them.

Not for nothing… but from day one I kept saying what Jason wrote here for years. I kept telling people all over the field even though they may have good intentions, but others were feeling the effects of their bad intentions. TAPS is doing nothing but making it a business now. I have been stung twice by their business sense. I was about to set an investigation up at a location where Dave & Bruce Tango visited many times in New Jersey. They welcomed us with open arms. All we needed to do was set a date and time and get it approved by the board of directors. I get a call from the director a week or two later saying we were approved to set up a date. However, then I was told due to the many visitations by the Tango’s and the high volume of requests for investigation they were now going to charge $100 to any group who wanted to investigate. It wasn’t even like the money was going for a good cause. I spent a lot time and hours Emailing, phone calls with them trying to convince me to pay them. I was pissed because prior to this we were not going to be charged anything. In my opinion, it was the influence of the Tango’s.

Another location I have been to was Fort Ticonderoga. Before TAPS was there, they never had ghost tours. A colleague of mine told me after TAPS went there all of a sudden they are charging $35 a person for a ghost tour.

Let me go on by saying every where I call I find out they have been contacted by TAPS and have had a negative experience. As much good people think they do, they also hurt the field by turning it into a business making it hard for us genuine investigators to find locations to investigate.

Jason is right about the rate race. They flat our LIE to their audience about being the first ones to investigate many haunted locations when they are not the first ones.

They use to work with other teams, other investigators. They use to help people in private homes. Whatever happened to just helping people and the field? I commend Grant for being the first to walk away. Perhaps he’s jumping the ship before the Captain brings the ship down.

  • I have followed Ghost Hunters from the very first episode and I love the older ones. It seems they are going more toward the Ghost Adventures way of ghost hunting minus the Zak Baggans over exaggerations. I hate that Grant is leaving, he was one of the few that really investigated for the love of it. Or atleast acted like it…. I will continue to watch the show because they do get some great evidence, but it won’t be the same.

  • Grant will be missed. Wasted blog, sorry to have read it. So easy, if u don’t like it or believe it don’t watch it.

    • Well, as I said in my post, “I haven’t watched the show for a few years now…” I know, I hid it cleverly in the first few words of the second sentence of my post, so I’ll forgive you for not finding it. As a show I did once enjoy, I did want to comment on Grant leaving. If you want to believe that this show is “reality,” then that is your prerogative. And it’s my prerogative to tell you about the bridge I’m selling, dirt cheap 🙂

  • If I want to see real paranormal evidence, I just watch Ghost Adventures on the Travel Channel. Their evidence appears unadulterated, to me.

  • Oh good God!! Ghost Adventures?? Where dust particles and insects are declared ghosts on a regular basis or is it when Zak is routinely possessed that has you convinced of its realism? Currently, on TV the only show that has bigger douchebags than GA is Jersey Shore. As for the credibility of GH or any other paranormal show right now, they all pretty much stink.

  • WoW! I thought I was the only one that felt like that. You put it perfectly!!
Thanks for saying what I have felt for a long time. I always enjoyed when they went into peoples homes not historical landmarks or what ever. I miss the original ghost hunters and their purpose they started with.

  • I can’t speak to whether or not they fake any evidence but can say that I heard them speak at an event on the Queen Mary and even “investigated” the engine room in pitch blackness with a group including them. They seem like pretty normal guys, when all is said and done. And Grant was a real gentleman, advising me to watch my step going up some stairs in dim light. So, don’t know about the show. Just know that they are very normal and friendly in person.

  • I loved the show for a long time. What soured me was how Chris turned it in to a show filled with showing off her cleavage week after week. You could just tell she wanted attention.

  • When I was about five or six I saw what I believed was a ghost of a neighbors grandmother, and she appeared to me 4 more times. It freaked me out. I didn’t understand why she revealed herself to me and not her own granddaughters who were both close in age to me. But that experience only has made me curious about the paranormal.

Years later my sister told my that she had also saw her in our bedroom. I still don’t understand why she appeared to us. They lived right next door. This experience has made us believe in lost, confused spirits are all around us.

There are so many shows out there on the paranormal, I believe Ghost Hunters is the best of them but I cannot believe in all of their claims. One question I have for them is why would you need to shut off all the lights. The women I saw appeared it was during the daytime. Many of the of day TAPS clients claim the spirit they saw were during the daytime.

    Now if sprirt

  • [Sorry it posted before I was done. ] Now if spirit needs electricity to get their power to appear or manifest themselves, why would you turn that off? All the paranormal shows do it.

I’ve been known to be a sensitive, many of my experiences come through my dreams and nightmares. One was the death of my mother. For over a year I had the same repeating nightmare of how she was going to die. It freaked me out and I told my dad. He said it’s just a nightmare. Then one day my mother went into the hospital for some tests and she past away. Everything I saw in my dream became a reality. Even the Movie that was playing in the VCR. I am told I talk in my sleep as if I am answering someone’s questions and I also walk in my sleep. I don’t like this ability at all. It scares me and it’s not just about what happened with my mom, it’s sometimes are little day things, seeing an accident before it happens. All of it creeps me out. I don’t expect you to believe me, most don’t until I tell them what to watch out for.

I miss the old casts. I liked Donna and miss her personality. I was glad to see the whiner go (I don’t remember his name), I didn’t care for Andy or Rob. Whiny was hard to believe he was so desperate to see or experience something. I prefer to watch Ghost Hunters International, the history goes way back. One thing is they all ask questions in English (minus Barry) and expect to get an answers in English. Did the spirit suddenly take a course from Rosette Stone?

I will miss Grant, I found him to be down to earth. I don’t care for Jason, he gets on my nerves. Glad to see the added Mattie. Dogs are sensitive.

When I saw that Ghost Hunters was brought by NBC/Universal. I stopped watching it regularly. NBC makes up and hides news, would they would do the same for a “reality” show such as Ghost Hunters? Probably.

  • Hmm, never noticed Kris’ cleavage so that sounds more like a Patti problem than a Kris problem.

As to the topic at hand, I used to love the show. I lost faith completely after the Jacketgate Halloween episode. I still watch, I find Steve and Tango amusing, but the love is gone…

  • I believe Grant Wilson is leaving because he is having family troubles…Jealous wife he no longer wears his wedding ring fo LONG TIME NOW

  • Jason, I have been watching Ghost Hunters for several years. Overall, things have changed a little, but I don’t believe they would fake or stage paranormal evidence. I will agree that Grant seems to be the anchor of the team though. I would very much like to see the script that they left behind. Also, were they (TAPS) ever confronted with the copy of this script? Thanks for your posting.

  • Ghosts are real, and I know this for a fact. I also know that all paranormal shows fake evidence. They have to! They have contracts with the channels they are on. The contract states where they go for the season. In my opinion paranormal activity doesn’t have a switch. I think it happens due to a certain set of circumstances. So when the teams show up they have to have things happen to keep the ratings up. In earlier episodes they were not into ratings as much. So evidence was not as grand. As more people watch and ratings climb and many peoples pockets fatten. Evidence gets more frequent. People who have never had an experience in real life wouldn’t watch a show where nothing happens. So things are rigged. I wish they were not, but it is entertainment. I lost a lot of respect for GH for the collar episode and GA for the Zack possesions, but like I said it is entertainment. Many are gullible!

  • @Patti
That is so funny Patti! She is still doing the same thing on the GHI. But she still manages to hook the seat belt under her boobs to make sure she shows them off.

  • I have watched ghost Hunters since the beginning, and they totally change from what they once were. I started catching them faking stuff and talking nonsense. One episode Jason was using baking powder up in the attic to catch a ghost walking around up there. What’s wrong with that picture? Ghost are spirit not solid mass so they can’t leave foot prints. Also, they keep hearing noises, that we can’t hear, and they always see things that we can’t see, but miraculously it all appears at the review. I admit, I don’t do anything with the paranormal. I’m a biblical Christian and my beliefs of the spiritual world is based on the bible.

  • I agree with your assessment of the show, and stopped watching for the same reasons. However, I have another opinion as to why Grant is leaving. If you think back, there were several episodes in the third and fourth season where Grant’s wife was getting fed up with his involvement. His leaving for long periods of time and missing important family events was wearing on her. It would not surprize me if he is leaving the show to save his marriage and family.

  • I have watched Ghost Hunters since the beginning and will keep watching until the end. Losing Grant is pretty sad for me, I wish the best for him. Hope Jason and the rest of the crew keep going for a long time.

  • You are so dead on in every segment of your article. I have always believed these people are only out for ratings nothing more, considering how you never see or hear anything tangible. Look if there is a ghost you can really see it and if there is a voice you can really hear it, not the half a** rubbish they thy to broadcast on their show. Is it something how they always seem to hear or see something on every show “come on stop the madness!” When Amy does the flashlight tricks “REALLY”; please do not insult our intelligence. If I wanted to watch just a show I would watch a movie of the week. When I want to watch a realist insight on actual paranormal I would have hoped the title “GHOST HUNTERS” would be it; unfortunately I’m still watching a movie of the week. They went from being ghost hunters to all about money. Look, they even went international for more money; what does that tell you. Sad!

  • Has anyone else noticed the dark circles, and the sunken appearance of Grants eyes, or the fact he looks awfully thin? Maybe its just me< but I was wondering if he's very ill.

  • I have been investigating the Paranormal for a very long time, never thought about having a group or using all the different equipment they use now, until I saw Ghost Hunters, I liked the people and was hooked, now have my own group, and I hate how Jason & Grant left their original members, as they called them family, out to dry when it came to money & contracts, they took it all and left nothing for the rest, so they had to quit, that was terrible, the show has changed and yes it has to be faked, just watch early episodes & compare to new ones, the new ones are a show, not an investigation, Grant has had enough of the bull crap and lies & has made a ton of cash and now wants out, I don’t blame him, yes when he needs or wants more cash, he probably will return, I still watch it, but not with the same respect I use to, also watch Ghost Adventures, they are just crazy & stupid, they are not professional investigators, they are 3 young guys getting paid big money to act stupid and do something they started for fun. I have read all over the net and heard from people that has met them, that Zak and Jason are both total asses, and I’ve seen youtube vids of behind the scenes and from private people to prove it, oh well still going to watch them. it’s good entertainment.

  • I agree with those that say Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures and such do fake, it’s obvious, especially if you’ve watched both shows from the beginning, but even though they have changed drastically with time, due to popularity and even though they don’t seem to have their heart in it, I am a Ghost Hunter myself & without these shows, on, many would lose interest in the field, I would still investigate, but some of the luster would be gone without seeing what I like to do on TV every week, even though they are not real anymore, they probably do find some real evidence, but how can you believe it or know the difference, also it keeps you updated on new equipment and things to try as far as investigating goes. so until something better comes along I will watch them both and also GHI, Kris Williams is too cute with a nice bottom not to like to watch, I think that’s why Jason shipped her off, her popularity was interfering with his, I don’t like him. and poor Donna and Brian from the original shows, are kinda pitiful when I have seen them at small conventions for the paranormal in my area, Brian ruined his chance on the show with his own stupidity and girl problems, bet he wishes he had done different now, as for Donna, I’ve heard health issues along with being screwed by the show on money, caused her to have to quit, well Jay & Grant could have stood up and protected & helped her, it was their show, they let it happen, the producers would not have dumped the show if Jay & Grant had stood up for their original members that were screwed out of money to the point they had to quit, they did not stand up for them, so I have no respect for Grant or Jay, and Zak’s 2 partners on the show, act like at times they are scared to speak up on the show, Zak talks too much and does not let them get as much air time. again I will still watch, just with less respect for them all.

  • @Eileen
They all turn off the lights now because TAPS started it. It’s partly because TAPS became so popular and they want to cash in on it, partly so that they don’t have to defend not doing what TAPS does. (TAPS seems to have become the de facto standard of how to properly hunt ghosts). Partly, because there really is no canon of knowledge that has come to us from ghost hunting, so no good approaches to ghost hunting has evolved out of it. Your kitchen-table ghost hunters (includes TAPS) are not, repeat NOT, in possession of any specialized knowledge that sets them apart from the rest of us. Running around someone’s house in the dark has NOT led people to know about how the supernatural works. They have never sat down with a ghost over a cup of coffee and had the ghost explain its inner motivations to them. All this stuff about vortexes and portals and orbs and the like is stuff that kitchen-table ghost hunters get from books, web sites, other kitchen-table ghost hunters, absorb uncritically, then spew it out when they are investigating. Besides, it makes things easy for them. If they already understand it, then all they have to do is show up, get some evidence and pat themselves on the back. No need to set up real experiments and controls, and try to learn something new out of it. We actually know next to nothing about the paranormal really. (By the way, “residual haunting” may be a description, but it doesn’t explain anything, even though they want to toss off the term as if it does. No one knows how it works.) The best I can say is that psychic phenomena is real. It happens. People experience it, (I have) more often than not during the day, which is why, as you rightly point out, it makes no sense to investigate only at night and always in the dark. It’s really time for the amateur parapsychologists to start appearing.

  • @Dawn – Thank you! And I do remember that as well, though I’m guessing she isn’t too upset about all the money they make these days!

    @Insight – Thanks! I agree with you completely 🙂

@Charlie – we’ve noticed that as well, he’s aged quite a bit since the first season…

  • @Rob – Totally agree with you. Their “family” got fired pretty quickly once the success hit.

  • I agree with you all -money talks and it can corrupt a person’s principles. It can motivate people to do the most dishonest things. In Jason & grant’s case I believe the executives of the show came to both Jason and grant and told them we need to spruce up the show and make it more exciting. Here is a bunch of cash (Bonus) a big increase in both Jason & Grant’s salaries plus a percentage of merchandising to go along with it, and by the way your original members & friends have to go please sign here. I’m not saying that it happen that way, but it is possible. I do agree that Grant over the past few years has looked tired, aged a lot and even looked disinterested. It does make sense that perhaps Grant’s wife had enough and told Grant to leave the show or else. To put myself in her shoes I would do the same. Well anyways, this is my point of view so please don’t shoot me lol.

  • I agree with you all -money talks and it can corrupt a person’s principles. It can motivate people to do the most dishonest things. • Before we guess, yes guess, what’s going on behind the scenes, don’t go off half cocked because this person or that person heard this or a friend told them that. Most of what’s being said right now is just hearsay…..Do most of you know, for a fact, that what you hear from other people or websites is correct. I would guess that most would say no. Now, as far as ghosthunting goes, you can either believe or disbelieve whatever you want. Most, if not all, of ghosthunting is theory, much like Einestein’s relativity theory……We think we know, but until it’s absolutely proved, we’ll never know for sure. So, until then, I think Ghost Hunters is still the best show (and yes, it is entertainment) on the paranormal of ghost hunting. Grant is a great asset to the show. If this is indeed a permanet situation with him leaving the show, then we all suffer from his perception and experience with the paranormal.

  • Enjoyed what you said but I have to say of all the ghost hunting shows out there GH is still the most believable. All of the others, ESPECIALLY Ghost Adventures, just seems downright stupid. So I will continue to watch to get my ghost fix.

  • @Larry – Money definitely corrupts. Why are all of their friends not on the show anymore? the people who helped build TAPS? Because they weren’t TV-friendly. So get younger, pretty girls to fill in for them, actors actually, and now you have a more attractive cast.

@Steve – A lot of us have had first-hand encounters with the “Ghost Hunters” team, producers, etc. I have no problem with people enjoying “Ghost Hunters” as entertainment, but there are many people out there who believe that what they do is actual ghost hunting, and it’s not. I have a script, and I know for a fact that when they did an episode locally here, they spent 10 minutes shooting their scenes and lines and left. The show is pure fiction.

  • @Patrick – Thanks!

@Scott – Agreed, the other ghost hunting shows are far worse. “Ghost Hunters” presents perhaps the closest approximation as to what ghost hunting really is, but the show is heavily scripted and has been proven time and time again to be faked. It’s much like professional wrestling, some of the stuff looks real, but it’s scripted and rehearsed to be that way 🙂

  • I didn’t realize that a scrip was left behind or found lol. But it make sense because GH look so scripted. Who are actually actors? I know they had actors, wrestlers on the show, but what does that have top do with Ghost hunting? in the beginning it wasn’t like that. I personally think that all those light gadgets are phony props. Where they ask the ghost to shut the flash light off then on. and then there is the blinking lights gadget two for no and three for yes.

  • @Jason Stroming
Which episode/season? Please provide a copy of the script which you say you have. Saying it is one thing, proving it to everyone on this thread is another. If this is true, the information should be passed down to everyone!

    • Steve, it was the “Murdered Matron” episode at Snug Harbor, from last season I believe? Not sure how they number their season’s anymore. If you look through our archives you will see that we’ve investigated and done events there many times. We will be doing a post about the script soon.

  • @Jason Stroming Jason, thank you…..I believe the only way to convince me and probably many others would be to present the script along with the who, what when, where, why and how. Doing a post about the script would not convince me. Only the script itself, in it’s entirety. Sorry I’m such a knucklehead about this, but I was a detective in a major mid-western city for 30 years. I guess what what I’m trying to say is that you have to show me the proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

  • So, I wounder if Grant is serious about leaving the show for personal reasons or is it just part of a script. I personally believe he is sincere about having enough of the show, unless someone knows other wise. Also, I was wondering, if in the beginning before the first episode if Jason’s and Grant’s motives were to make a lot of money off GH or just hoped it developed into a money making venture. But in all honesty it has turn out to be a scam to deceive people who have sensitivity toward Ghost Hunting. Motivation? to Increase the popularity of the show which means big money for Hollywood executives. I’m not saying it was Jason and Grant’s intent to deceive at first, but once you take money from the executives they own you and you do what they say. It is no longer your show and if you complain then you are gone. GH won’t last forever and it can and will be replace with something else. I’m going way back in the beginning when i ask this question. Why did Jason humiliate Brian on the show. I was embarrass for Brian. Was he a screw up? Yes! Was he a liar yes of course he was, but Jason confronted Brian in front of many viewers on camera instead of privately. I lost respect for Jason and I can’t say I like him as a person. well I put in my two cents.

  • I can’t remember the year, but when I saw Grant’s jacket move during a Halloween broadcast, I started tuning out. Obviously fake. Too bad, really, because the idea of the show still fascinates me, but I’ve not trusted a thing this show has claimed since. When they were avant garde and new, it was really fun following along. It’s now a side show I barely take time to watch.

And before you go thinking well and good about Grant because of this blogster, the reason I tuned out was him, as stated above. Well, that and the over-saturation of the product instead of why I tuned in the first place. Curiosity, and the feeling I was watching genuine folks of my same ilk.

It’s too bad really, but to be honest, I left it behind LONG before this Grant departure thing. Sy Fy screwed up what was a pretty fun show that showed promise of actual investigation for something that’s no longer recognizable as such. Can’t say I’m really bothered.

    • @TheDarkHorseOne – I’m not making any apologies for Grant, and if you blamed only him for tuning out, than you’re not really seeing the big picture. Yes, he’s the first one who got caught faking evidence, but just because he got caught and the others didn’t doesn’t mean he was the only guilty party. They are all guilty of fraud. All I was stating was that it seems like Grant is the one with the highest principles, and perhaps that is why he got caught, because his heart wasn’t in it. I mention this in my blog post. The fakery has been rampant, and there are many sites out there, as well as YouTube, showing said fakery. A quick Google search will show that to anyone. I’m not sure why so many people still believe this show is in any way real, and it frightens me a little that they need so much convincing.

  • I’M NOT A PSYCIC OR GHOST HUNTER, BUT I DO BELIEVE IN GHOSTS, MY HOUSE IS HAUNTED. I STOPPED WATCHING GHOST HUNTERS LAST YEAR WHEN IT SEEMED LIKE WHERE EVER THEY WENT IT WAS HAUNTED, SAME WITH GHI. AS A WIFE I CAN SEE WHERE HIS ABSENCES COULD CAUSE A PROBLEM, AND GRANT’S A CUTE LITTLE GUY. MAYBE HE IS FURTHERING HIS EDUCATION TO HELP RUN THE B&B THEY BOUGHT TOGETHER. AS FATHER’S THEIR BOTH MISSING OUT ON A LOT OF THINGS. JOBS CAN COME AND GO, CHILDREN ARE YOUNG ONLY ONCE.

  • I wonder – now bear with me – I wonder if Grant’s leaving has anything to do with Kris Williams? I always “sensed” something with her and Grant, then all of a sudden she went to GHI. Or is this just my imagination?

  • ghost hunters has grown. Ive been there from the beginnig no better show out there on ghosthunting. Grants departure hurts. Money they deserve it . They put syfy on the map and no there show still holds true to debunking, jealousy is ugly ;truly.

  • Although I agree with many of the comments from your original blog, Jason, I am still a fan of GH, as are many others on here. I’ve watched since the first episode and seen the show evolve and change. I actually think that the dynamics between Grant and Jason are critical to the show’s longevity, so Grant leaving may effect the ratings. (But I also wonder if Grant leaving isn’t a “ratings” ploy – his “farewell” episodes, followed by the “Return of Grant” episodes – I’m a cynic). I’m also a post grad psychology major and have always lamented the fact that para-psychology is no longer really pursued with any legit academics (there’s a couple university classes, but not very many at all, anymore). I absolutely loathe Ghost Adventures (they “hear” EVP stuff everywhere they go; and with repeated possessions! I mean, good heavens! The rest of the trash TV out there on the subject is complete garbage – Paranormal State, Psychic Kids – it’s all garbage). GH is about the only one with even a semblance of “reality”, where they debunk and at least appear to investigate, plus GH has been in several locations where they themselves have “outed” faked evidence and exposed it. In closing, I agree with Steve’s comments/request on here – WHERE is the GH script that you found? Making a future post about it, without producing it, means nothing; sort of like faking evidence. Are you afraid of being sued by GH if you present it here? Presenting it in its entirety would enable people to see exactly what you are talking about. If you want to enlighten us mere gullible mortals, then by all means give us the information we need to make up our minds. Otherwise, saying, repeatedly, that you “found” a GH script is just another uncorroborated claim. But, that said, I truly thank you for the blog and for your contributions. Cheers.

    • Chris, thanks for the comment. I should have clarified: the future post about the script will have photos of the script. There needs to be some editing done because there are people’s names and phone numbers and such that we are not looking to publish, people not associated with SyFy or Ghost Hunters or TAPS. And again, people shouldn’t need a script to realize that the show is scripted. It’s reality TV, which we all know means there’s not much real about it. Watch season 1 episodes, which were done the right way, and watch current episodes. There’s plenty of evidence out there, far more damning than the script, that proves that Ghost Hunters is faked.

    • @racerchick9 – there is no shame in expressing one’s opinion. There is shame, however, in poor spelling and grammar.

  • Thanks Jason for the Blog. I’ve been wondering why Jason was leaving. Thought maybe there were some tensions brewing between Grant and Jason. Still think there might be because of the way Jason has been acting in the last few episodes. He seem to be stiff and more professional than in the past. Sorry to see him go. He is a key person in the show. Thanks again for your thoughts. Makes more sense to me now.

  • I get what your saying. There was an obvious shift in the show a few seasons back but that in itself is the nature of a series. Things evolve and sometimes the changes don’t reflect well. As for scripting? Most every where they go is coordinated and thought out. Scenes are planned to maximize the effect. That’s television, and anyone who thinks they can actually put on a show and call it reality, expecting to have it be completely authentic, must still be living in their parents basement, working at their local Pizza Hut for pocket money. Do you know what I do appreciate? The fact that some episodes are flat boring. Boring because they didn’t find anything. Boring because the fringe evidence that they did find wasn’t played up to be some over the top amazing evidence – that it simply wasn’t. As for making it harder to investigate some choice spots….that’s all about the network and ratings. It’s part of the game. So – sour grapes??? Yeah. You sound like your rockin’ them a bit. And I get you…..I just get them too.

  • I couldn’t agree more with your blog. The show is a laugh now. I cannot understand how the Ghost Hunter groupies and rah-rahs cannot see just how faked and staged the show is. I think they watched a few episodes of Ghost Adventures and decided that they needed to up the anty. More hype, more speculation, more outrageous conclusions, more trickery, more nonsense. It amazes me that people want to believe so bad that you can present garbage to them and they buy it.

The topic of paranormal investigation is interesting enough without insulting our intelligence with stretching the evidence as they do. Not every sound is an EVP.

  • @Jeff: Thanks. It’s good to see I’m not the only one who hasn’t been brainwashed by their antics!

  • @P.S.: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: “You’re just jealous” and “sour grapes” are the rallying cries of all the knuckleheads out there who buy into everything “Ghost Hunters” feeds them and get mad any time any criticism is leveled against the show. The show hasn’t matured or evolved naturally. It has turned into a show about presenting “evidence” every week, investigating only famous places and not helping the average person, and the “TAPS family” has been decimated. And if you want to blame the producers of the show for all of this, including making it tougher for other groups to get into places, I suggest you watch the credits to see who the executive producers are.

  • I stopped watching GH because Jason became increasingly verbally abusive and arrogant with the team. To me, Grant was the redeeming factor, but there wasn’t enough of him and too much of Jason.

  • I have two siblings that went to school for the entertainment industry and work in the Hollywood area. One of them does a lot of work in the editing of reality tv shows and can completely corroborate to scripting, staging, fixing, basically anything to make money as that is what the bottom line is, to get viewers to keep watching, which keeps the money flowing! I spoke with some legit paranormal investigators who know, associate with T.A.P.S and there thoughts match with this for the most part but also mentioned specifically that Grant has had enough of the staging along with Jason going Hollywood! Some can handle it others forget about it!

  • HAS ANYONE ELSE NOTICED THAT GRANT HAS STOPPED WEARING HIS WEDING RING SINCE HIS ANNOUNCEMENT TO LEAVE THE SHOW?????????????

  • You know i agree completely exept for the whole Grant is more compationate part i think he is in it just the same for the money as grant is. But the rateing thing is dead on. You see it happens a lot with other show. Remember American Choppers it was all about the moter cycles now its all about drama and fighting and the only time you see a chopper is at the very end of the show. And Sons Of Guns Once agan it was all about the guns but as seasons go by its all about Drama and you dont see a Gun till the end of the show. GH is just figuring out a way to intergrade Drama into a DAMN good well once damn good show. But it seems that, that is what the popular media likes now adays as sad as it is drama is what most people want.(Im not one of those people) But if you pay attention to shows and look at the from the start twards the end there is a big change in the ammount of drama being fed into it even real REAL reality shows such as Dog The Bounty Hunter became scripted and set for drama. Sad days almost seems like the end of them (BUT ITS NOT) 8)

  • Jason, Any timeline on when you will release the script? I realize that you have to redact some information, but the proof is in the pudding. If the ghost hunting is faked, I want to know, along with many others, but if this script is a guide as to how the ghost hunters are going to be filmed and what areas they are to proceed to first etc., that’s something else entirely. It’s been at least a couple of weeks since a few of us have discussed this. I just dislike the teardown of the show without ample proof. We all await this important information!

  • I so agree with you! I’ve watched GH since the FIRST episode. I was a huge fan back when they weren’t so slick, sitting around in a trailer with the best equipment they could afford. Last year I swore it was over, I couldn’t bear it anymore. Then the “Grant leaving” got my attention. Watching just makes me sad now.

  • I’m watching the Washington Hotel revisit hotel and decided I wanted to see what the skinny was on Grant’s leaving.

When I first heard he was leaving I had the same reaction as you – that his heart has gone out of it because of the hoaxing and tricks instead of the investigation. I recently saw a capture of one of the previous episodes where his jacket gets tugged three times and it broke my heart to think that Grant, the more introverted, good neighbor kind of guy would be pulling stuff like that.

You brought up something else that I had been missing – the helping the families. Granted, I like seeing the haunted historical places but I think these episodes would be so much more interesting if they were off-season 2-hour specials. I miss seeing TAPS going into the community and helping people. I think this is why I ditched GH and watched that horrible Paranormal State. Even though that was as fake as all get out, at least it pretended to be helping people.

Tonight’s the first time I’ve discovered your blog. I’m glad to know I’m not the only person who’s felt let down by GH.

    • @grayeyedgirl: It seems that a lot of fans have forgotten about the whole “We’re here to help” motto from the first few seasons. Instead of helping families, they’re helping businesses line their pockets these days.

  • I get what you are saying but I don’t agree with everything. I see Grant as the weak link, and Jason, Steve and Tango as the strong “Characters” In the last two years however I see them looking to prove paranormal and not trying to debunk much at all. With that being said I also remember sitting there in the beginning for a whole hour just to get up and say “That was a drag” So there goes the “Hollywood” aspect. Keep them coming back.
I could live with that until the movie stars started to appear. The worst was Halloween two years ago when the announcer (forget his name and his stupid show) used that live format to support a president and trash the other. Now I thought that was the worst until the House Wives from (wherever) hosted the show! Are you kidding? They want us to take them seriously after that? That is when I found Donna’s take on her experience on GH and how awful she was treated.
Even with that, I am bummed. With all the Ghost investigations they are the most believable(Paranormal State is as believable as “The Fourth Kind”) I will continue to watch them, but not as religiously as I used to.

  • @cindi I first noticed that he no longer wore a wedding ring or spoke about his kids after Kris was shipped off to GHI.

  • I “discovered” Ghost Hunters in 2008. Would sit and watch for hours, loved it back then. Got busy, didn’t watch for a while, was missing it, and hunted it down this year. Watched several of this years episodes, and the show has changed dramatically. Having 4 years away from a show and coming back gives you and interesting perspective. Back in the early seasons these guys were the biggest skeptics trying to disprove everything. Now its like all the other “ghost hunters” shows, ever investigation finds “evidence” of ghost. That, in and of itself, is very suspect b/c there is very little “real” evidence of ghost.
In the early episodes I related more to these guys b/c they were as skeptical as I am. I have never had any first hand experience with actual ghost or anything I can’t easily explain with a little investigation. They were once the same way, so when that actually found something, I was impressed. Now, no way they find that much stuff everytime.

Oh well, shame, it was really good early on.

BTW, skeptical scientist make the best ghost “hunters” (debunkers), :O)

  • I agree with some of what you say Jason. All reality shows are somewhat scripted and like you I loved the first 4 seasons and have seem them get away from helping homeowners. But truth be told I have contacted several paranormal groups and never heard from them either. Back to my original thought. GHI is totally out there hence why they can not keep really any orignal cast members and is a spin off run by the syfy suits. GH is still run by Grant and Jason and your right they do get more evps etc but that may be because they only air the investigations that have them, because sometimes it was boring tv. It does not mean their not out there doing investigations and finding nothing, there just not airing them. So again I get what you and some others say and no one will ever be totally happy with any show, however this was the closest to what really goes on in the field and superior to any of the other shows out there. I think Grant is leaving because his wife and kids are tired of him being gone so long. I dont think he or Jason truly work for Roto Rooter anymore I mean seriously can you buy and fix up a beautiful hotel on that salary? I think we will see GH being cancelled soon. Oh and lastly you can even tell the first 2 Halloween events went on almost until 3am CST now they barely go until midnight and they have to many stars in it. So hopefully if you read my book you will see both sides, because there are always two sides to every story.=)

  • I use to be a HUGE GH fan. But the arrogance of Jason, the firing of Brian Harnois, and the departure of Dustin, Amy, etc. just ruined it for me. Steve and Tango annoy me. And that GH Academy crap was redic. I refuse to watch the hot mess known as Ghost Adventures. Paranormal State is just …..ugh. Such a shame Ghost Hunters lost its way. Sad. 🙁

  • Grant isn’t leaving TAPS, he is leaving Ghost Hunters. You claim to have all the facts, but you need to get them right.

  • This show is in the Reality TV category. Who are we kidding. There have only ever been 2 reality shows in the history of television, your local news casts years ago before the newscasters were scripted to editorialize and “Candid Camera”. Give “Ghost Hunters” a break.
You can’t put what the do at a site into a one hour time frame without editing and staging some shots for continuity. If you did, every week would be like watching the “Blair Witch Project”, and all of that was staged and rather poorly. It’s entertainment trying to explain the paranormal. As for evolving from trying to help people with possible paranormal problems to helping businesses with “paranormal problems”, business are people to. Sure they end up making money from it but that’s free enterprise, capitalism and greed at its finest. People have been capitalizing on “George Washington slept here” for over 200 years. And he probably wanted to keep a lot of those places quiet. Watch the show for what it’s worth and take away what you want. Maybe Grant may not have liked the direction the show was going so he will stop participating. You can do the same, turn it off, stop participating. Or you can watch it for what it is, ENTERTAINMENT! And by the way your attitude goes beyond “sour grapes” it borders on jealousy. So next Wednesday I will sit back, sip a cold drink and watch Grant’s “final investigation” enjoying every entertaining minute of it, real or faked.

  • Wow..just stumbled onto your blog after doing a “Why is G leaving search”. Loved the show the first season when it was about helping and debunking. To me it’s been unwatchable and unbelievable. I’d rather get my paranormal fix online now..good blog, btw @Jason Stroming

  • @7and7is Thank you, and glad you enjoy the blog 🙂 I too enjoyed the show in it’s early seasons, and it definitely reflected what ghost hunting is actually like. Now it is completely unrealistic.

  • @Day I never claimed to have all the facts. You should read my post more carefully before commenting. Grant is leaving “Ghost Hunters.” I’m sure in an honorary way, he will always be a part of TAPS. But since TAPS only focuses on TV shows now, and Grant will no longer be on TV, that pretty much makes him no longer a member of TAPS.

  • @Lee Hertrick Again, please see my previous comment about people who enjoy “Ghost Hunters” claiming “sour grapes” anytime the show is criticized. I understand they need to edit an investigation into 22 minutes. That doesn’t explain how they capture evidence every week. Ask any real paranormal investigator, and they will tell you this doesn’t happen. I have no problem with them helping businesses, but they ignore the average person now. Everyone who was like “family” to Jason has been fired from TAPS. Your arguments don’t hold any water. If you enjoy the show on a purely entertainment level, then great. But there are many people out there who buy into this show and believe it is an accurate portrayal of what paranormal investigating is, and it is nowhere close. Believe me, I am not jealous of TAPS. I have no desire to sell my soul and abandon my morals and beliefs for a TV show, and apparently, Grant no longer has that desire either.

  • @sean Believe me, they are not filming episodes and refusing to air them because they are boring. Filming an episode of a TV show costs millions of dollars. Transportation for all the cast and crew, hotel accommodations for everyone, food, salaries, equipment, etc. No network in their right mind is going to film dozens of episodes and only show one or two of those. I get that the show is scripted and staged, going back to season one. But at least in the early days the product reflected what actually happens. People these days watch the show and believe that they are capturing all of this amazing evidence. It’s a paranormal soap opera now.

  • @Georgia Girl Completely agree with you. It’s shameful what has happened to this show, and yet still people will defend it and make excuses for them.

  • @Michael Thank you Michael, this is exactly what I was trying to get across in my post. I think people who have watched all along have barely noticed the changes, but comparing season one to current episodes, the differences are huge. Back in the day, Jason would never say a place was haunted and most evidence they did find, he wouldn’t eel comfortable presenting it to clients. Now all of a sudden, they find 3 or 4 amazing things every investigation? Things do not work that way.

  • I must say I agree with the direction Ghost Hunters has taken. When it originally started there were times that NO evidence is found. Anyone that does do investigations knows that this is more the truth than not. YOu can do days with no evidence. but lately EVERY investigation has findings. NO ONE gets told their place isn’t haunted anymore. It is is shame. Hopefully Grant is leaving to be with his family. It is a lot of rode work and takes you from your family. Thanks for the honesty that is not a Ranting Raving but facts.

  • I have, since I was very young, experienced things that years ago would be enough to put a person in a nut house. Ghost Hunters is true blue in there in the investigations that they perform. This is not another stupid reality show or useless game show. I believe Ghost Hunters one the best shows on today because it shows that there is more then this life to live. I don’t really know if the host Hunters will ever see these comments but all I really want to say is this show is not a reality show, it IS a information show on a subject that has misrepresented for years. My only request/comment is to Grant. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE.
You are a part of a partnership that will not be the same without you. Since it would seem that it has already been decided Good Luck and God Bless you and your family

  • I am very sorry to see Grant go and I will miss the banter between him and Jason. some of you are so lame! of course there are cameras filming, duh, it’s a tv show. as for the firing of Brian Hornois, it took to long to do it. I only wish they would get rid of Steve! he spends all his time finding ways to belittle Tango and while he thinks it makes him superior, it only makes him look stupid. how can he think he is a big man when he screams like a little girl at the sight of a bug, and thanks to him it has cost the invetigations time and money because he is afraid to fly. how was he ever a cop with all of these phobias? obviously he worked dispatch and was never on the street. can you see him chasing a felon and runing into a spider while he is up against the wall and screaming, he wouldn’t last long. just DO NOT leave this show to him! fans will leave faster than from the Titanic.

  • Its heard Grant may hook up with NemPit (paranormal team) NemPit started before TAPS and gave him lots of tips along the way.

  • Ya NemPit works with lots of paranormal teams behind the scenes. And have been around longer. Sure they gave em some tips.

  • Though I agree with much of what is said about GH going ‘Hollywood’ I have to say that I used to love watching every week with my husband. He still loves the show, despite how ‘hokey’ it became, and still believes that there are ‘presences’ that are unexplained.

That said, I also noticed that Grant quit wearing his ring right around the time that he made his announcement that he was leaving the show. He looked terrible, lost weight, big dark circles around his eyes, just not well-looking. I suspected that he had probably been having problems in his family, and no amount of money in the world is worth tearing apart a family, if, indeed this is what is the case here, despite his other stated ‘reasons’ for leaving GH. Of course, it’s his own business, and none of ours. I’m glad to see that he set his priorities straight, and whatever his reason for leaving is enough for me to respect him for making a difficult decision. And whatever rumors might be floating around are just that: rumors. Not to be taken seriously.

If he returns, fine. I enjoyed his presence on the show. I hope that GH, with or without Grant, eventually goes back to its roots, back to having humility and serving the Average Joe, which was what made the show so interesting in the first place. I suspect the show’s days are numbered, regardless.

    Cheers…

  • I used to watch TAPS and stopped watching it because Chris annoyed me. I don’t know why, she just did and I couldn’t get passed it. I have tuned in from time to time along the way, but lost interest when every show seemed to have a haunting. In the beginning, the hunting’s were few and far between. They took a helpful organization and turned it into a contrived gimmick. I feel like it has hurt their credibility. I watched it tonight for Grant’s farewell show. I was disappointing that the setting was being held at their Inn. Right away I could see that it was a shameless promotion of their Inn for tourism purposes. In my opinion, there is no way these “spirits” show up on Que. I think they sold out and that they have successfully made an interesting show ridiculous. I’m irritated that they expect me, the viewer, to be that gullible. They may have pushed the paranormal into the mainstream, but in the end they have only reaffirmed the skeptics view that the paranormal is fake. I believe in the paranormal, however I can not accept what TAPS has offered us in these past few seasons. Good luck to Grant though. he was my favorite.

  • I have had a problem with the show for some time. When you tell the investigators the specific things they will see and hear, you are planting a seed that they just might experience the same thing. It is called the power of suggestion and I think the brain is an amazing thing. I would rather tell the investigators to “set your cameras in this spot and tell ME, the owner, what you catch.” If the experiences match, that is pretty good stuff.
The show seldom uses the thermal camera which is an interesting piece of equipment for ghost hunting. I also like static cameras: set them in a hot spot and let them do their thing. Finally, I have grown weary of “what the hell was that!” Everyone says that over and over. It will be interesting to see how the show evolves from here. I think they will go back to more edgy confrontation among the crew. What has happened to “provoking?” That has fallen by the wayside too. Great blog and I enjoy reading the stuff. Hope people respond to these ideas.

  • I don’t believe the show is faked, however, It’s a disappointment that the final episode is a one hour commercial for the Spaulding Inn, which Grant and Jason own. Talk about subtle marketing.

And for those of you who think the show is entirely real, I have a script they left behind that I can show you. They didn’t investigate overnight, only filmed the investigative shots they needed and then bailed.

So, 3 months later, no script…..I’m sorry, but it doesn’t take 3 months to redact names and telephone numbers from a script! Most people could do this in one day. Like I said before, If the ghost hunting is faked, I, along with many others, await the proof

  • So what if the final episode was a commercial for their Inn….. good marketing ploy and who cares anyway? All that watch the show have known that they had purchased that Inn a few years ago. I also have a comment for the person that said that there seems to be more places that are actually haunted now as compared to in the beginning when some places they investigated were NOT. In the “beginning” Taps and Ghost Hunters show was unknown to the public but as their popularity grew wouldn’t it be likely that their choices of locations grew too? At this point they can pretty much pick & choose but I have noticed in the past couple years that they are investigating larger locations than individual homes. Oh well… that’s ok too. I like the show always have always will in spite of what this knuckle head that started this blog says.

  • I also wish Grant well. I do not get any “sour grapes” out of your site, just a difference of opinion, and I can see nothing wrong with that.
I liked watching Ghost Hunters because it was different. I never considered it a “reality show”, and I think some of the things they found were real, (At least at first). I agree that you don’t get EVP’s at every place you go to, although with our electrical grid system, you may get EMF’s, LOL.
I watched it as an entertaining T.V. show, and nothing else. It seemed to me like they were just 2 good friends that fell into a money hole, and rode it for what it was worth. In this day and age, I can’t fault anyone for doing that. People have done far worse for fortune and fame.
I was (and I guess I still am) an amateur Ghost Hunter, but I’m not any good at it. I have never recorded an EVP, never filmed a real ghost. I have been to supposed “haunted” places and have de-bunked 99% of whatever was going on, (The exception is my own house, and again I have to laugh at that). When Ghost Hunters first came on, when they said they had a voice, you could make it out, now they say “it’s saying Amy,” or “it’s saying Jason” it sounds over my TV like someone has gas near the camera, but again, I never watched it believing it was real.
Thanks for letting me throw my opinion in the circle.

  • @Steve Steve, we will post the script when we have a chance. This is not a “Ghost hunters” blog and honestly, we don’t usually even like talking about them. The script we have is but a small piece of the multitudes of evidence out there that this show is complete fakery. Google it and you will soon see. There are websites and YouTube videos dedicated to debunking it. Donna LaCroix has come right out and said it. As for the script, you need to be patient.

  • @Bill K Thank you Bill. I’m not sure why people think I am jealous, especially when I admit that I used to love the show. And I don’t mind people enjoying it for entertainment purposes. But there are a lot of people out there who honestly should know better. And yet, they buy into this show and honestly believe that what is portrayed on TV is “real.” And then they clamor for proof that the show is faked. If any group actually caught that much evidence, there would be no need for paranormal investigating. But some people seem to need to believe in these things so badly, that all rational thought goes out the window, and it’s easier to simply attack the critics than to think rationally.

And Bill, you may go years without capturing an EVP. Doesn’t mean you’re not good at ghost hunting. That’s just the nature of the game. Stick with it and you’ll get something eventually 🙂

  • @Jason Stroming
    Thanks, Jason
I do the hunting when I can. Now that I’m disables, it’s more of a hobby than anything else. I have some weird things I have found that I use, but it’s just me.
Remember how many people argued, ( and still do I might add) that pro wrestling was real. Even when Hulk Hogan came out and said it was scripted, people still argue it’s real. If you have a 250 pound man land with all his weight on your neck, your dead, period.
Like you said, if there was really this much proof, there would be no skeptics.
People seem to believe most what they want to believe. If someone wants to believe there is a ghost, no amount of evidence to the contrary will make them believe otherwise. It’s like psychics. I have stood in front of many psychics’ places of business, and thought “If you are real, come out now”. I have never had one came out. People want to believe in the afterlife, psychics and other stuff so bad, that they will defy all logic to do so. While I do have a belief in ghost, I have yet to capture any evidence.
    Smiles,
    Bill

You can Google anything and get the response you want. Donna has been debunked online too. The script is something you brought up. It’s been 3 months, I think we have all been patient. Here’s what I really don’t get. If this show is faked as bad as you say it is, WHY is it still on the air? It would seem to me that if it were faked as bad as you say, the show would have been exposed long ago and cancelled. Hey, I’m here to read those facts you say you have. I will believe you when I see it for my own eyes. Evidently the SyFy network is in cahoots with Ghost Hunters to fake evidence, right?

  • @Steve The script is your priority, not ours. I’ve said that it will be published, and it will. Asking me about it every day won’t make it happen any faster. As for the show being faked, as you can see from the comments here even people who still love the show concede that it is staged for entertainment purposes. Former cast members have spoken out against the show to varying degrees, and you dont believe them. So what will you believe? Again, if you find it easier to believe that TAPS finds dozens of EVPs per season than the fact that the evidence is faked for entertainment purposes, then nothing anyone can show you will ever convince you otherwise. Common sense alone should make you extremely skeptical about what is portrayed on TV. Regardless of the nature of the “reality show.”

  • Just in passing Steve, you asked about the script on May 17th, and May 18th, so you actually did ask about it “every day”.
Let’s face it Steve, Ghost Hunters don’t need you to defend them. If you don’t believe the script exist, who cares? If I don’t believe the shows real, who cares? I doubt anyone is going to lose any sleep over this. Once it is published, what kind of proof are you going to need so you will not just say it’s a fake?
Jason Stroming has already told you it’s not one of his priority, accept it, and move on for now. I’m sure you will be notified when it is put up, and I have a sneaking suspicion that you will claim it’s fake after it is up.

  • dont leave i love the show it will not be the same out u on the show u leave then ur partner leave then show will go down people will stop watching the show

  • I agree with Jason. The first few seasons they mostly did homes which I liked and it helped people. Now they do tourists attractions that can only benefit from the show coming to their location. Haunted or not.

Jason Hawes used to “hate” to call a location haunted. Now every place is haunted. They used to not tell the client what they personally thought a EVP was saying so not to influence what they hear. Now they do. And one episode Jason says “I think they’ll like this GE dishwasher” on a plumbing job. At the time GE owned most of NBC Universal who owns syfy. They still own 49%.

The number of former members is telling. Most of them are still into ghost hunting.

  • Well, since your site would not let me post yesterday, let me just say that I don’t think you are very honest, Jason. What I ask for was not impossible and 3 months is enough.

Bill K……You need to grow a pair. And how in the hell do you know or have a sneaking suspicion that I would claim anything as fake. Were you on OJ’s jury…….Sure sounds like it.

  • @Steve You’re not grasping this. I never stated in my original post that I was going to post the script on this site. THAT was 3 months ago. A few weeks ago, I said (in response to you) that I was planning on posting the script in the future. I’ve asked you time and time again to be patient. This blog is just a small part of my life, and we tend to avoid ‘Ghost Hunters” news here for the most part. It will be posted when it’s posted, and you will need to settle for that.

As far as Bill K. goes, it sounds like he already has a pair and you don’t like it. He never stated for sure that you would claim it as a fake. He said he had a suspicion, as I’m sure a lot of other people here have about you.

I do not stand for bullying or harassing on my blog, either of myself or of our readers. Please do not post here again. Your comments will not be permitted.

  • Well, I used to be a TAPS watcher. It didn’t take long to get really bored with it. It seems that the longer you watch, the more you can see the hoaxes in it. I will say that this show is better than most. But still, there are so many things on it that you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out. Out of all the episodes, the only one that actually made me take notice was the one showing the Civil War figure that was wearing the keppie. It was several seasons back, but that one stands out. I’m supposing they just got lucky with that one. I personally would like to see more like that…but the evps played over and over and not being able to understand what is being said, the orbs flying by, none of that means anything. I watched Grant’s final episode after not watching for quite awhile. I only found out about his leaving from catching an ad. I too believe he’ll be back. I think they either all go and close TAPS altogether…or just stay on and keep making money. Who will leave next? Ask a ghost.

  • @Dan
I remember that episode with the dishwasher, because we had bought a cheap GE dishwasher, (the cheapest I could find at that time), and I had said to my wife, “I hope it last more than 9 months, like ours did”. I thought at the time that it was a strange comment. I didn’t know that GE owned a percentage of the network. That’s funny and it makes sense now.

  • In an episode in one of the first several years, Steve said something to the effect “never investigate a place that has its own gift shop!” That is about all they investigate. It is big business for a restaurant or hotel to be able to say “Ghost Hunters was here and found ghosts.” Get back to the homes where people are actually afraid. Use more thermal cameras, static night visions and less “running around chasing footsteps.” Don’t say “what the hell was that” ever again. Don’t have people tell you what to expect. Go for more science and less Hollywood and I bet many fans could be won over again. The shows early success was based on a genuine attempt to explore the unknown. Set up the cameras, tell the producers to go to the hotel and take a nap and go back to the basic formula.

  • I never will understand why when someone posts a reasonable example of why they don’t like or agree with a tv personality they become a “hater” or even worse a cyberbully.
Anyway, has anyone seen the movie that went straight to video called “Grave Encounters”? It’s more of a take off of Ghost Adventures but anyone that loves ghost hunter types shows would enjoy it..just think of it as a revenge of the spirits who are probably tired of being called and harassed by the hunters.

  • I lost all faith in the show when i saw Grants final episode. How convieneint that the show was filmed at an inn they both own and it had every paranormal thing that could possibly happen..happen. What a bunch of bullshit. Hes only promoting his hotel so he can make money. I call bullshit on this one

  • I used to watch TAPS until Brian Harnois left (was asked to leave? I don’t know). When I heard that Grant was leaving, it made me upset again. OK…I don’t like change…lol…I admit it. I loved the show and now, I just keep missing it when it is on. I loved the other show that was based in England (can’t remember the name of it). I do believe that there are spirits among us. And I wonder if they mind us mortals interfering in their new world. Who are we to say they are ‘unsettled’…maybe the spirits enjoy haunting. I fully intend on haunting this world when I leave it. What a great and cheap way to travel !
Goodbye, Grant. I really enjoyed you and I bid you enjoyment in your life journey.

  • I have watched the show for its entirety. Grant is my favorite. I never take it too seriously like some. It is purely entertainment. Anyway, has anyone noticed that over the last several shows that Grant is no longer wearing his wedding ring? And in older shows, Jason always commented on how Grant’s wife seemed to give him a rough way to go when he had to travel for the show. I believe it is more marital than boredom or education. I hate that for him.

  • People should not judge others and no one should be jealous of other people. I am on a paranormal team and I have always watched Ghost Hunters. I have talked to Amy Bruni and Kris Williams an Rob Dommerst and Dustin Pari on a radio show and they seem very legit and never said anything bad about each other. Always good things about the show and each other. They are more into helping people then themselves just as some teams do it. People who judge others need judgement on themselves as well. They are people just like us and have families they need to support just like us.

  • Chris always annoys me too! I thought that was too funny that someone else said the same thing
I just can’t explain what it is but Amy should be in her place. Ghost hunters is my favorite show. Chris just needs to stop wearing spaghetti strap tank tops in every episode (even in caves when the guys have sweatshirts on!) put on a TAPS tee-shirt:) hahah! I’ll miss Grant been watching 8 years! From Warwick, RI.

  • @AQUEMINI
It’s funny if you visit her (Chris) web site it’s all about how you can book her for appearances, (anybody opening a mall?) If you put a picture of her when she started GH, and a current one side by side, you can see certain body parts have been surgical enhanced. I’m not criticizing her; many people have had their looks surgically changed. She paid a lot of money for those, and sure she shows them off. If it was so terrible, Hooters restaurant would be out of business.
The only thing that gets me, and it seems to be every time she was on the show, Kristyn Gartland would always see something just out of view of everyone else, and all the cameras. For the matter, most of the time that anyone sees a shadow or movement; they hardly ever have a camera on it. Should someone else be sitting up the camera angles? I’d say yes. The other thing that doesn’t work for me is the infrared thermometers. If you have ever used one of these things, you know it take the temperature of whatever it sees, to a point. I know on copper tubing, you have to put a black spot with paint or even marker to get an accurate reading. That type of thermometer is picky at best. I can take you into any room, and get whatever temperature you want it to be. If I can move it, I will make it do anything I want it to do. You can buy a cheap one and experiment with it. I have a high end one, and it really doesn’t do much better than the $40.00 one.

• I wish Grant the best, he was one of my favorites. I do get what people say about the show becoming more of a gimmick for things. To be honest, this was one of my favorite shows but for the past few seasons it’s become lackluster for me though I haven’t missed one episode. I still watch it, in fact I actually liked it better when they actually brought the dog on investigations. Not because I thought the dog was valid but because it was something different than the same old thing. Problem is, I have yet to hear of a ghost investigation series in which no one complains they’re fake. Ghost Hunters is just another series in which people want to bash down. I love Ghost Adventures and The Dead Files, but people like bashing those series’ down as well. You can’t please everyone and nobody/nothing is perfect and of course these shows depend on ratings, how else are the going to get the funds to investigate places all over and acquire new equipment. I don’t think they’re able to do all of this on Grant and Jason’s plumbing salaries. It’s sad to see Grant leave, mainly because I’ve noticed Jason’s mood swings, seemingly more upset than having fun. Although these past episodes after Grant’s announcement, he’s been more upbeat than I’ve seen him in a long time. But how can people expect those that are in the public eye to always be positive and enjoy when they are under so much pressure with everything they’re dealing with. Which is why I think Grant is really leaving. He may be feeling the pressure is too much and is taking away from what he values most and needs to regroup. Of course he’ll be back to do more investigations here and there, he co-founded TAPS. He’s not going away forever, he just doesn’t want to be on the show anymore. Good luck to him and the other members and I hope that with the recent changes that are being made, hopefully it could help with kicking some butts into the investigators to get back to why they started, enjoying the work and helping others. Hopefully they can get back to helping families more than doing so many famous landmarks. After all, that’s what more important.

Wow, I never paid attention to it but I’m watching the Grant’s final investigations episodes and played them back and you’re right, no ring. Don’t know what that means but I do know that the show starter ( you know when they play the theme and show the Roto Rooter van and stuff) he’s not wearing it either so it may mean not mean anything but interesting find.

  • @Mister C
Exactly my thinking. I was actually just thinking about that Lizzie Borden episode when I was reading these posts. I agree, the show needs to go back to basics but unfortunately, with a production as big as this show has, they won’t allow the team to investigate homes when they don’t profit from it. Don’t get me wrong, I still watch and love this show but I have been having a hard time watching and paying attention to it without rolling my eyes every now and then. The paranormal shows I watch are interesting, especially because I’ve had my own experiences throughout my life. But I do wish TAPS would stand a bit more ground and make the determination to want to investigate family homes and people that need help other than landmarks and ships. I hope the shows that continue on will be better and less “amusement park” type shows. I do think its unfortunate that past members feel the need to bash the show though, after all no one would even know these people’s names were it not for that show and other shows would probably not have a chance to be aired had it not be for Ghost Hunters. No matter what anyone thinks, this show did pioneer the field into public awareness of the paranormal and how there just might be life beyond what we know. No matter how it is now, Ghost Hunters helped to catapult paranormal investigators and other series that are currently being shown. Gotta give TAPS that, at least.

  • Let’s see, after reading first page of posts I have to agree with some.I hated when Brian left, hate Grant left, agree Jason seems more upbeat now.I never liked Chris with the big boobs, always felt Jason was an arrogant, pompous uknowwhat. On my own I picked up on how Jason always undermined Grant.Always.He always seemed to be bossy to everyone.Especially Grant and Brian.Between Steve and Jason I saw why Brian was no longer there. Now is that why Grant left?Grant should have his own show,I feel he is more honest.Maybe the last show was at their inn so they could have a farewell party for Grant.Who knows?I may not be watching any longer and is a shame as I know their is paranormal activity in my own home.Only since I brought my husband’s ashes here.

  • Ghost Hunters has never been my favorite paranormal investigation show, and it isn’t because of what many of you are saying, which is that the evidence on the show was faked. I have always wondered why they didn’t use more technology to capture something besides just EVPs and personal experiences. They seem to find ways to disprove the evidence and personal experiences of their clients and rudely tell them why it wasn’t valid, but then go on to play a few weak EVPs and tell them about their personal experiences, which is supposed to be expert evidence. Also, they talk to the spirits and then about them in the same breath, as if they can only hear what’s directed to them. Chris is really annoying because she talks to all the spirits like they are children or beneath her level of intelligence. Come on, these spirits are PEOPLE! Talk to them like you would talk to anyone else and you might actually get something good.
I can get EVPs on any given day in my own home, so why would I want to sit through an entire episode to see these supposed experts do the same thing? I prefer shows like Paranormal State where they use all that money they are making to get video evidence as well as trying out new devices to gather all kinds of evidence. They also did things to help the spirits move on and help they families return to a normal life again, but sadly, that show has been discontinued. Doesn’t make a lot of sense, in my opinion, but then what do I know about producing a decent TV show?

  • I’m watching Ghost Hunters right now actually(: @Steve I know this is a late response but you said in your previous statement, “It would seem to me that if it were faked as bad as you say it is, WHY is it still on the air? … would have been exposed long ago and cancelled.” I’m sure you’ve heard this before but not everything you see on TV is real. Just because it looks accurate doesn’t mean it really is. I just wanted to throw that out there. I don’t think any of the “reality” shows on TV are actually REAL. Producers know how to juice things up anf make things exciting for entertainment purposes. (~:

I have to agree about Chris. She is very annoying and I could not watch her either. I also thought she was not effective in ghost hunting, seemed to joke a little too much, not respectful, and not serious. The other lady was far better and was much more focused, serious, and passionate about ghost hunting. I was disappointed that Chris was sent to GHI to be lead. As far as Grant is concerned, I am like everyone else. Have not watched the show in a while, but saddened by Grant leaving the show.

  • Steve,
    Know this is late still…
I’m one of GH former fans. I became disenchanted (no pun intended) when their focus shifted from helping people in private homes to “investigating” the public venues-prisons, hotels, etc. so on that much we agree. People don’t HAVE to visit old prisons, etc but they do have to live in their own homes. I did go & see the “Donna LaCroix” interview you mentioned where she “unloads.” Indeed she did unload but not, as you suggested to make accusations about fakery or to expose fakery, she said that if it was done, she was kept in the dark about it b/c they all knew she wouldn’t agree to “fake it.” What she seemed most disgruntled about was the disparity between her financial remuneration and that of Grant & Jason. Though even with this complaint she freely admitted the lawyer who handled her contractual issues had done a poor job.
So, that’s it from one former fan to another,
    Happy Haunting,
    Oakley

  • @Ronale
First off, take your caps off. You don’t make your argument any stronger by typing all caps. It reminds me of people that think if you simply shout something loud enough, others will have to believe you.
Second, how do you “know” all this? Where is your evidence? Please present it and I’ll be more likely to believe you if evidence is presented, instead of someone typing all in caps. There is a huge difference between someone knowing for a fact, and giving their opinion. While your opinion is just as valid as anyone else’s, without proof, all that it is, just an opinion.

Third, if TAPS is so sincere, like you state, it should be no trouble to get them to come out, because they said at the beginning of the show, they would investigate any issue that a child in involved. Since this sight has no connection with TAPS, other than wishing Grant the best, why don’t you go on their sight and ask them to come investigate your problem with your Grandson? You could have them come out and write about the help they gave you, and come back here and tell the rest of us. I’d be interested in reading about your experience

Pretty sure you can get Ghost Hunter tee shirts on the syfy website. It’s been a while since I have been to that site but seems like there was a store there specifically for Ghost Hunter gear 🙂

  • I like the show no matter what and I have noticed that the show has hanged over the years as to the hunts being more commercial etc but I just figure the reason being is that they are more well known at this point. I would imagine they get flooded with people trying to get them to investigate anything and alot of crackpots just wanting to be on TV. I have watched this show from day one…. no matter what…. I like the show 🙂

I like this show very much.

  • I have always enjoyed taps/ ghost hunters. i liked the fact that they debunk as well as find evidence of ghost.steve has so many phobias it’s it’s unreal that he is a former policeman. as for places they have investigated, they were the first to film at some of those locations. you want camera happy crews, try watching the ghost adventurers. not only have they investigated the same sites as the ghost hunters {afterwards}. the lead investagator , Zak, gets on my nerves, with his hushing of his co workers then running his own mouth!!now that is irratating !! i’ll watch ghost hunters anytime , rather then the other shows !!

  • I’ve followed GH for just about the entire 8 years and I have some observations myself. Odd, how Grant’s exit precipitated a sudden explosion of activity at every stop on his farewell tour. What’s more, is the activity seems to have stayed at a high level ever since.
The recent episode where the team is investigating the campground and see lights in the woods, but just stand there and comment on them is completely opposite the mentality that allowed them to ridicule Brian Harnois right off the show.

As an investigator myself, I watch every week just so I can bone up on what lengths people will go to in order to fabricate evidence.

  • I think a lot of evidence were faked on GH, not to say there aren’t things out there that can’t be explain. I don’t really think anybody really knows why grant really left. Is he still part own of that resort in New Hampshire?

  • I’ve watch GH for the last eight years and have noticed the same things you’ve mentioned. Jason used to never admit to a place being haunted, and now suddenly everything is haunted. I’ve been disappointed in the show for the last several years, since they started investigating locations rather than private homes. I hate that the slightest odd sound is an “EVP” and they somehow found a “translation” for what it says. I remember in the beginning Jason saying that they never tell the client what they think an EVP says because they want to see if the client hears the same or similar to what he and Grant heard. Now on every episode, they implant an idea into the client’s head by stating what they think the “EVP” is saying. I still respect them as true ghost hunters. They obviously have had true experiences and know what they’re doing. However, I’m disappointed in the show. It has become just as commercial as the rest of the crappy ghost hunting shows out there. Of course I still tune in every week, in hopes they will find something real. Still waiting.

  • And one more comment….I was extremely disappointed in obviously faked “phenomena” in an episode from this season. I believe you mentioned it, the one at the camp. Those “lights” were obviously fake. They almost looked like the lights you see on road caution signs. That is probably why they didn’t investigate, because then the audience would see the contraption making the light. The “evidence” was so cheesy. I can’t believe they actually allowed it on the show! I lost a ton of respect that night.

  • Grant DID NOT leave due to wanting to go for more education Grant left T.A.P.S because he is a Morman and it goes against his beliefs and, it started to interfer with his marriage and with his kids. I know him personaly so please Get your info straight before you write it

  • After reading the above Story, I have to agree with everything stated. I’ve been watching GH since the first season, and the last few years seem to be more contrived and unbelievable. They used to debunk most things, but now almost every place has amazing evidence of paranormal activity. I also used to think Grant was the one of the group with the most integrity. When it was announced that he was leaving, the first reason i thought of was that he didn’t want to continue with the falsehoods on the show. I have noticed that this season without him, seems much more faked and scripted! I have really lost much respect and interest in the show, and TAPS in general!

  • @Tim O
Well Tim, I can say I know him personally too, but I don’t. That’s the problem with things in here, anybody can claim anything. I would be very suspicious of this explanation for the reason that he was on the show for many years. Now suddenly it’s interfering with his religion? I can maybe buy it messing with his family, as it has gotten pretty big, but if this was the reason, why would he not just come out and say it. Why does he need you to defend him? If someone leaves a show with little or no explanation, it opens things up for people to come up with their own reason. If you are friends with Grant, and you alone are privy to these “facts”, then how is the everyday person supposed to check their facts if they are so secret?
Lighten up, I have read all these post and I don’t believe anyone has said anything against Grant, in fact he seems to be very well liked. People speculate in the absence of facts.

  • I think GH started out honest & Sincere, but once the networks saw the potential of GH being a successful Sci-Fi show. It started faking a lot of stuff to make it more interesting and appealing to bring in a larger audience. Why is it, that when ever the Taps investigators hear something or see something we don’t see it? Will Jason retire after the show is canceled or will he become an actor or host to a new paranormal show. I am sure that GH will eventually be canceled and replaced with something else. Does Grant & Jason still own and operate a resort inn in New Hampshire? I’m just curious. BTW, Jason once lived in Canandaigua NY when he was an young boy. I was born and raised in Sodus NY, about a 45 minute drive to Canandaigua. I know that city/town very well and I know where Allen Town is located. Taps investigated there during one of their episodes. It’s the closes i ever came to Taps lol.

  • @Tim O As Bill said, anyone can claim to be a “friend” of Grant’s. And we did not say that he left to pursue his education, we were only reporting what the TAPS website stated. And if you truly were a good friend of his, maybe you should take a bit more care to spell his religion correctly. And if it were against his religious beliefs, he probably wouldn’t have done the show for almost a decade before quitting.

  • […] Well, this is a bit unexpected. Jason Hawes, the lovable lead investigator of those wacky ghost hunters of The Atlantic Paranormal Society, announced today that Season 11 will be the last season of Ghost Hunters on the SyFy Channel. While I’d like to believe that Jason and the crew are leaving SyFy in order to produce a more realistic and scientific offering for the viewing masses, I’m guessing this is all coming down to the almighty dollar. The show has been SyFy’s biggest (and perhaps only) success, so I can only imagine that SyFy would do everything in their power to keep the series on its airwaves. Unless Jason and company asked for something completely outrageous (and let’s be real, Jason is the only one calling the shots here, as Grant left years ago). […]
