‘Survivorman’ Les Stroud Talks Bigfoot

I have always loved the Discovery Channel series Survivorman. For those who are unfamiliar with the show, survivalist Les Stroud spends 7 days in the wilderness, with only his cameras, the clothes on his back a few simple supplies (and by simple, I mean things like a paperclip, credit card, ball point pen, etc.). Unlike Man Vs. Wild with Bear Grylls, Les is actually alone in the wilderness and has to set up his own cameras to capture all the shots. No camera crew, no producers, and no hotels once the cameras are off. He has traveled to a variety of climates, from rainforests to deserts, to Pacific Islands to the Arctic tundra. This is a man who has spent a lot of time deep in the woods by himself for extended periods of time. I always swore that if I got the chance, I’d ask him if he had ever had any experiences with Bigfoot. It seems like one of the DJs at KZOZ 93.3 beat me to the punch. And the answer Les gives is extremely interesting.

Les Stroud of “Survivorman” admits to believing in and possibly encountering Bigfoot. Because he wasn’t cool enough already.

Today we had Les Stroud from Discovery Channel’s Surviorman on the air to talk about his new book “The Will to Live.” He gave us some incredible insight on his background as a survival expert as well as how he got into the business of making Survivorman.  We asked him to share some of his wildest stories which range from the extremely sensational, such as being chased by a jaguar in the Amazon, to the physically taxing, such as fighting off heat stroke in the desert.  After some quick lessons on why not to drink your own pee, or anyone else’s for that matter, he got into the topic of other “Survival” hosts.  We couldn’t agree more that these people don’t have the chops or the balls to really go for true survival without the constant aid of a camera crew.  We even got him to tell us that Bear Grylls better buy him a beer if they ever meet in a bar!

Finally, Jeremy brought up his favorite subject of Sasquatch which we thought was a ridiculous question.  Surprisingly, Les brought up an extremely intriguing story that gave us the chills about a possible Sasquatch experience. That’s right, you heard it here first, Les Stroud believes in Bigfoot!  If you’ve never listened to the program before, you won’t regret checking out the audio above to hear the entirety of our interview with this fascinating, and extreme, man.

The interview itself is awesome. Les is, from everything I’ve seen and read, a very friendly, charismatic and honest guy. So the rest of the interview is interesting as well. The Sasquatch talk begins at the 9:00 minute mark, and Les goes into detail about how when he was filming an episode of Survivorman up in Alaska, he heard a large creature grunting at him in an ape-like manner multiple times before bounding away. He never claims that this was Bigfoot, but he definitely makes it clear that he believes in the possibility of the existence of these creatures, and explains that what he heard sounded like no animal he’s ever heard before, aside from an ape. Very interesting stuff. And thanks to Courtney Mroch of Haunt Jaunts for bringing this to my attention!
